Sonic X is one of the two animated television series in which The Adventures of Amy and Tiff is based on. It was produced in Japan by TMS Entertainment in 2003 with partnership by Sega Corporation and Sonic Project, and was then bought by 4Kids Entertainment in the United States. In 2012, Saban Brands bought the rights to the series.

Japan[]

Only the first 52 episodes aired from April 6, 2003 to March 28, 2004. Episodes 53-78 were unaired and are also not available on DVD at Amazon.com.
The DVDs were released from 2003-2004 as well, with the first 39 episodes also available as Hi-Spec editions. The Hi-Spec editions contain an additional 5.1 surround sound audio track.

United States[]

This country is where the 4Kids version started it all. All 78 episodes aired from August 23, 2003 to May 6, 2006. Many edits were made in this version for viewing by a younger audience.
The first 52 episodes were released on DVD from June 1, 2004 to May 16, 2006, followed by two box sets containing episodes 53-78 from October 2006 to February 2007. The first 52 episodes were then re-released in "Saga" sets during the late 2000s.
On August 13, 2012, after Sonic X was sold to Saban Brands, all episodes were removed on that date from YouTube and from 4Kids TV's website. In addition, the DVDs are selling out due to 4Kids' lack of profitability. However, the show can still be viewed online at Hulu.com, both in its 4Kids and original versions.

France[]

This is the only European country to not contain any of 4Kids' edits. It was also the first country to air episodes 53-78 on television, which began on March 2005. However, the French version of Sonic X is not 100% the same as the Japanese version, as nearly none of the dialogue was directly translated.

South Korea[]

Starting on July 6, 2009, all 78 episodes aired on JEI TV, directly translated from its original Japanese version. Many other countries in the Region 3 area also did this, though much earlier before the Korean version.
